THE DIFFERENCE

Many Competitor products used in booms & curtains, are similar to standard polypropylene (thermoplastic) solutions that have been traditionally offered. These are not particularly good absorbents & are in fact predominantly a simple adsorbent, used for oil only leaks or spills.

Our ProCleanSorb Absorbent products are suitable for spills & leaks of oils (all hydrocarbons), chemicals, heavy metals & to mitigate the toxicity of wash water. In addition, we use natural microbial technology to accelerate bioremediation of the contamination.

They too work more efficiently, do not leach or leak & even absorbs vapours.

Q How does ProCleanSorb work? & why will it not pollute the environment once disposed of?

A PCS is a harvested Verifloa, sphagnum moss peat, recognised by the EA as sustainable. It absorbs hydrocarbons (including flammable fumes) & artificial chemicals into its structure, where they are encapsulated & cannot leach out, ever, even under pressure (leachate <0.06% - source Socotec.co.uk).

  • There is natural microbial technology within the PCB granules that actively encourages bioremediation, by breaking down the contaminates into less or non-toxic substances.
  • In optimal conditions (subject to what has been remediated) bioremediation could take only a few weeks to break down the hydrocarbons to the point that no further potential for harm exists

DISPOSAL Options

  • LANDFILL - We are in discussion with the EA with a view to not having to remove used absorbent from site for disposal, but have not reached an agreement at the moment. Although PCB is non leaching we do not like the idea of, or wish to recommend it is sent to hazardous landfill (nothing should be)
    – but if it is, then please note that PCS will still be 5x lighter in weight than competitor products!
  • INDUSTRIAL INCINERATION - our least favoured option (unless installed with efficient carbon scrubbers) preventing carbon emissions.
  • BIOMASS - The preferred option would be to go to Biomass for energy, where it will create 17,000 btu/LB (0.7therm/454gms).
 

Responsibility for disposal sits with the user. Options available however will vary in every region/country. Should there be any uncertainty, it is recommended to contact your local Environment Agency

NEW innovation.

Our new spill response wheelie bins are QR code controlled to help our customers automate their spill response procedures & create an audit trail that will help them to mitigate & minimise the effects of a leak or spill.

There are two QR codes on the outside of the lid (the lid is now security sealed).

  1. The first is scanned (by the response operative) which will automatically send a predetermined message to the mobile number of a member of the environment team.
    It can state that there has been an accident at a specific location & help the environment team react quickly to the situation.
  2. The second does exactly the same but sends a message to the Stores Manager stating that the wheelie bin has been opened & requires replenishing.
  3. A third reader (inside the lid) is scanned to download deployment & data sheet information, for everything in that bin. We now also supply every spill kit with heavy duty, elbow length gauntlets, eye protectors & respirator.
 

This forms a part of our Site Environmental Awareness (SEA) programme in collaboration with Pro Earth UK where, through a series of tool box talks, we encourage site teams to take a proactive approach to environmental protection, by identifying vulnerable areas & guarding them before starting work.

These actions create a documented audit trail of training & best practice solutions that can enhance the speed & quality of the clear up process, reduce or remove penalties by the regulatory body & the protect the company's reputation.
